Why are there taxes on my check?

All payroll checks are subject to Federal and State income taxes.

Those employees receiving Social Security must still pay Social Security tax on their paychecks. Also, all employees will receive a W-2 at the end of the year and not a 1099 since they are not independent contractors per the IRS regulations which can be found HERE
